The teachers said that they have left with no option but take to the streets to get their voice heard.
The teachers said that the government must listen to their reservations against the IIUI President Ahmed Al Draiweesh and the administration of the university over the alleged financial and administrative corruption.A press release issued by the ASA IIUI said that “the ASA IIUI once again reiterated its demands and decided to take the matter out of the IIUI and have announced a sit-in on the Kashmir Highway from July 2 for an indefinite time or till their demands are met.”
According to the official statement of ASA, “the entire ASA team was on a strike on a strike with faculty members of FBAS to protest against the misconduct of the Dean Dr Arshad Zia and financial corruption he has committed on various occasions, including financial embezzlement in case of Hafiz Farooq who was invited as HEC sponsored foreign scholar from Saudi Arabia, financial corruption committed by him during the last two convocations, and drawing house rent ceiling despite living in a state house allotted to his wife in Islamabad.”
According to the press release, on June 23, “he (Dr Zia) humiliated and verbally molested Dr Sajida Kousar of Department of Mathematics, in the presence of other colleagues. This is the height of highhandedness on his part and the ASA has condemned it strongly and would continue to do so. A case under Harassment Ordinance is also underway against his misconduct towards her.”
The ASA has also demanded to form an inquiry committee to probe the allegations against Dr Zia.
It demanded an immediate withdrawal of termination orders against Dr Shahzad Ashraf and Dr Husnain Naqvi; immediate removal of Dr Zia from the position of Dean FBAS; advertisement of Vice-president positions as per decisions of BoT and BoG; removal of contract holders from administrative positions as per verdicts of the high court and the Supreme Court; appointment against foreign seats through advertisement and selection board following HEC’s appointment criteria; dual employees doing double jobs must be removed; implementation of merit-based rotation policy in the appointment of chairmen and deans.
It further said that in order to ensure transparency, the decisions of constitutional bodies must be publicized; committee for the upgradation policy be announced immediately; vacant posts must be announced immediately; victimization should be stopped and culprits must be punished; harassment committee should be formed and the ASA should be made part of it.
