Gilgit (TP) January 15, 2010: An eight-member team of Polish climbers have arrived in Islamabad to scale up Pakistan’s 10th highest peak Batura Sar in the Karakoram mountain range.
According to sources, the team will depart Islamabad for Hunza on Wednesday (today) for the winter adventure as snow has blanketed the entire Gigit-Baltistan region in the last three days.
The sources said that renowned Polish climber Rafael Fronia will lead the team. The expedition has been named Batura Sar 2020. The team will launch the adventure this week according to the weather conditions.
Batura Sar, the 10th highest peak and 7795-meter-high mountain, lies in the Karakoram mountain range in Gojal, Upper Hunza. The mountain has never been scaled up in the winter before. The peak was first climbed by a team on June 30, 1976.
