Abrupt sealing of Islamabad’s G-9/3, G-9/2 sectors puts residents in awkward situation
Islamabad (TP) June 11, 2020: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on late Thursday sealed G-9/3 and G-9/2 sectors in Islamabad and the main Karachi Company over the rising number of coronavirus cases.
The ICT administration’s announcement late at night of sealing the two sectors abruptly has put the residents in an awkward situation as the administrant asked them to stockpile edibles and food items despite the fact that all shops and markets were closed.
The ICT administration said that the residents of the area will not be allowed to move out for at least three days or maybe for a longer period as Rangers and police personnel will be deployed in the area to ensure that no one is allowed to go out or enter the said sectors.
Talking to journalists, Islamabad deputy commissioner Hamza Shafqat said that personnel of armed forces, Rangers and police will be deployed at the coronavirus hotspots to ensure a complete lockdown.
He said that they were also considering sealing Sector-I/8, Sector-I/10, G-8 and G-7. The deputy commissioner said that the full-scale lockdown will come into effect from tomorrow.
He said that over 200 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the areas adjacent to the Karachi Company and they were compelled to seal the said sectors.
At least 6236 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Islamabad with 62 deaths and 1164 recoveries.
Critics say that Islamabad deputy commissioner, on the one hand, claims to have put in place elaborate measures to contain the coronavirus and on the other hand, owing to the administration’s sheer negligence, the cases were on the rise.
The residents of the affected sectors who spoke with The Punch said that they should be given some time to collect and stock commodities of necessity before the areas were locked down.
