Islamabad (TP) October 21, 2020: In an unprecedented development, around 700 contractual and daily-wage employees of Radio Pakistan have been sacked as the national radio is facing the worst financial crunch of its history.
Sources told The Punch that the contractual and daily-wagers have been fired from various departments in all stations across Pakistan which has sent shockwaves among the employees, who have been making both ends meet at a time when inflation is an all-time high in the country.
According to sources around 531 employees of programming and 177 employees of the news section have been laid off.
Similarly, 41 employees of the web desk have been terminated in Islamabad station.
“The competent authority has decided to terminate the services of under mentioned booking/ contractual staff i.e resource persons, AMA’s, duty officers, consolidate, daily wages (21 and 26 days) etc with immediate effect as their services is no more required,” said a notification order issued by the director administration of Radio Pakistan.
A contractual employee, who had served in Radio Pakistan for more than eight years, while talking to The Punch said that the employees have been sacked at a time when their case for permanent employment with the organisation was being heard in Islamabad High Court and int the Labour Court.
He claimed that the contractual employees were about to win the case against the Radio Pakistan management, when they have been terminated, which was contempt of court per se.
