Coronavirus claims life of GB minister

Gilgit (TP) July 18, 2020: Minister of Agriculture & Live Stock Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Janbaz Khan died at a hospital in Gilgit fighting the coronavirus contracted illness.
The 62-year-old politician, having a history of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, had recently been tested positive for coronavirus. He was admitted to the City Hospital Gilgit a few days ago where he was on a ventilator and oxygen support.
According to hospital sources, Haji Janbaz Khan died at around 1 pm on Thursday. Haji Janbaz Khan had the forte of having been elected to the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly five times. During his political career and member of the GB assembly, he remained leader of the opposition, forest adviser and currently as Minister for Food, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock. He leaves behind two wives, five sons and four daughters.
Haji Janbaz Khan was a big name in the politics of Gilgit-Baltistan. He was also at the forefront of social service.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, 1213 people have been tested positive for the coronavirus with 18 deaths and 768 recoveries.
The Gilgit city has been put under a smart lockdown until June 22 after a large number of Covid-19 cases surfaced post-Eid relaxations.
