Rape case: man gets death sentence, wife life imprisonment

Rawalpindi (TP) January 25, 2021: A local court in Rawalpindi on Monday awarded death sentence to a man and life imprisonment to his wife after they were found guilty of sexually assaulting a female student and filming the scene on the mobile phone before selling it to a porn website.

District and Sessions Courts Judge Jahangir Ali Gondal handed down the death sentence to Qasim Jahangir in addition to awarding life imprisonment, three-year imprisonment and imposing fine of Rs25,00,000 on him for his involvement in the sleazy activity.

His wife Kiran Mehmood — who was co-accused in this case — was also given life imprisonment, three-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,00,000 on her.

CPO Rawalpindi Muhammad Ahsan Younis congratulated SSP Investigation and investigation and the legal team for the successful prosecution of the case.

“The Rawalpindi police is pursuing zero-tolerance policy against those who abuse and exploit women. The conviction of the culprits is indeed a victory of justice,” the CPO said.

According to police, during the investigation the couple had confessed to the sexually assaulting 45 girls, including a sixth-grader, taking their photographs and making videos of at least 10 victims.

According to the investigator of the case, Qasim Jahangir raped a young girl student whereas his wife Kiran recorded the objectionable scenes in a mobile phone and on a camera.

The case came to the fore in August last year and evinced media attention for weeks when a victim lodged a complaint against the coupl for raping and filming her.

According to the victim, a masters student of economics at Allama Iqbal Open University, the couple lured her into their car and took her to a house in Gulistan Colony, where the convicted man raped her while his wife filmed the entire ordeal.

After the incident, the victim approached the CPO who had taken notice of the matter and got the suspects arrested.
